Your Money
What about a part-time job?
- Being a teaching assistant (TA) for one of
your profs. You go in, run the labs and do
marking.
- The fine arts department is always looking
for models for their life drawing classes. (It’s
a great way to take off your clothes for money and keep your dignity)
- Working in the athletic centre.
- Working at the pub is really fun. You’re not
drunk but you get to hang out with your
friends.
- Use your imagination. If you think Mt.A
needs something — start it up yourself.
- Intramural sports re always ooking or
referees, 10 bucks a game.
- Mt. A ambassadors who give tours.
- Working for the student union — you’re
elected, you get a salary and you work all
summer.
- I found that working took away a lot of time from my studies, though.
Living on a budget.
- Start writing it all out.
- Everybody does it differently. Your parents
can help out.
- Find a good way to get money from your
parents.
- Don’t use your debit. Take out cash. If it’s
not tangible, you don’t think about it as
much.
- Just don’t spend as much. Look out for the
good deals you can get.
- Extra food in your room is an unnecessary expense, especially if you’re on a meal plan.
Saving on food.
- Buying your own groceries is a lot cheaper,
but make sure you eat what you buy.
- The farmer’s market on Saturday is key.
- You can spend a lot in meal hall.
- The communal groceries is asking for
trouble, because somebody always ends up
eating more than the others.
- Have your parents make stuff and you bring it home and freeze it — stock up your freezer.
Keeping track of your money on a party night.
- Keep a stash in a pocket you don’t use or in
your sock (or bra) just in case (but don’t
drink that money).
- Don’t take out too much cash. The less you
have, the less you’ll spend.
- Don’t take your debit card to the bar.
Where does your money go?
- Booze.
- Eating out.
- Tuition, books.
- Groceries
- Those little shopping sprees you think are
okay.
- Food. (usually crap).
- It’s little bit by little bit. You need to keep track of it.
